Will Singer Adnan Sami Be Allowed An Indefinite Stay In India? Find Out Here

Pakistani singer Adnan Sami who has been in news for his much acclaimed Bajrangi Bhaijaan song ‘Bhar Do Jholi Meri’, has been allowed to stay in India for an unspecified period after his appeal was made to legalise his stay in India on humanitarian grounds.

Singer Adnan Sami, who has always been in news for his earlier controversies, had submitted a representation to the Home Ministry on May 26, 2015, requesting his stay in India on humanitarian grounds. According to the reports, Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rejiju, on August 5, communicated to Lok Sabha that he has been exempted from deportation proceedings under Section 3 of the Foreigners Act. The singer will be allowed to stay in India till further orders are not taken.

Born in Lahore, Adnan Sami had come to India in 2001 on visitor’s visa with the validity on one year. Soon after coming to India, in 2000 Asha Bhosle teamed up again with Adnan to release a collection of love songs named Kabhi to Nazar Milao in India. The album became an instant blockbuster and had topped the Indipop charts for the most of 2001 & 2002.

Recently, his most acclaimed song ‘Bhar Do Jholi Meri’ from Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan is again on the top of the playlist. The emotional and touching qawali songs is creating raves and is said to be his comeback in Bollywood after a long break.

His career in Bollywood as a singer went up and on the request his stay in India was extended. His Pakistani passport which was issued on May 27, 2010 got expired on May 26, 2015 and his passport was not renewed by the Pakistan government. This forced him to approach the Indian government with the request to legalize his stay in India.

Well, after going to all the records and proceedings on Adnan Sami’s appeal to stay, the Home Ministry of India has carefully reviewed and has agreed to ignore various clauses of section 3A of the Foreigners Act, 1946 in public interest.

Hereby declared provisions of clauses (c) and (e) of sub-section (2) of section 3 of the Foreigners Act 1946 and paragraph 11 of the Foreigners Order, 1948 shall not apply to Adnan Sami Khan and is exempted from deportation proceedings.
