MUMBAI: Multi Screen Media (Sony) has acquired the satellite rights of a slate of new Hindi movies from Eros Multimedia.
The movies acquired also include the biggest blockbuster hit of 2007 – Om Shanti Om starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal and Shreyas Talpade.
Some of the other movies that the channel has acquired are Sajid Nadiadwala’s Heyy Babyy starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Ritesh Deshmukh and Fardeen Khan; Sanjay Gupta’s multi-starrer Dus Kahaaniyan; Neeraj Vora’s Sunday starring Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi, Ayesha Takia and Irrfan Khan; Roshan starring Bobby Deol and Dwij Yadav; Subhash Ghai’s Black & White starring Anil Kapoor and Akshaye Khanna and the recently released One Two Three starring Tusshar Kapoor, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal.
Additionally, the company has also acquired the satellite rights of some yet-to-release films like – Ganesh Acharya’s Money Hai To Honey Hai starring Govinda and Hansika Motwani; White Feather Films’ The Great Indian Butterfly starring Aamir Bhasin and Sandhya Mridul; Pankh starring Bipasha Basu and Mahesh Manjrekar and Kunal Shivdasani’s Hijack starring Shiney Ahuja and Esha Deol.
Apart from these films, Multi Screen Media has also acquired the rights of Shola – Fire of Love, The Game of Love, Dahek – A Restless Mind, Khallas – The Beginning of End and Meri Life Mein Uski Wife.
The rights have been acquired for a period of five years. Sony will have the exclusive rights to the first screening of these films, after which the rights become non-exclusive.
Early last year, Eros International had inked an exclusive Rs 850 million (Rs 85 crores) deal for a package of 16 films to be broadcast on Sony. The deal included films like Salaam-E-Ishq, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Namastey London, Eklavya – The Royal Guard, Partner, No Smoking, Cheeni Cum, Mahatma Versus Gandhi, Provoked (Hindi), Nanhe Jaisalmer, Buddha Mar Gaya, Chess – A Game Plan, Friends For Ever, Mr Black Mr White, Mr Hot Mr Kool and Aur Pappu Paas Ho Gaya.
Additionally, Sony also enjoys an exclusive relationship with Yash Raj Films and hence last year’s releases from the production houses like Tara Rum Pum, Aaja Nachle, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Chak De! India will also be aired on the channel.
Recently, the channel also acquired the satellite rights of close to 200 films from Shemaroo Entertainment.
