Saregama zeroes in on two film scripts with Apoorva Lakhia

MUMBAI: Saregama India, which had signed director Apoorva Lakhia to make films under the banner, has now zeroed in on two scripts.

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Saregama India chief creative officer B R Sharan says, "We had signed Apoorva Lakhia for two films. Now the scripts have been finalised and one of the films will go on floors after Apoorva’s Mission Istanbul releases next month."

Sharan informs that while one film is based on a father – son relationship; the other revolves around the politics of big businesses a la Oliver Stone’s Wall Street, which starred Charlie Sheen and Michael Douglas.

The film based on the father – son relationship is likely to go on floors first. "Since it is an emotional film, it is likely to go on floors first. We have not yet decided on the star cast of the film. However, talks are on with a few actors," says Sharan.

This movie will be made on a budget of approximately Rs 200 – 250 million (Rs 20 – 25 crores). Lakhia is currently gearing up for the release of Popcorn Motion Pictures’ Mission Istanbul starring Vivek Oberoi, Zayed Khan, Shreya Saran, Nikitin Dheer, Shabbir Aluwalia and Shweta Bhardwaj. The film also has a special appearance by Suniel Shetty and Abhishek Bachchan and is slated to release on 25 July.

Additionally, Saregama India is also in talks with writer turned director Abbas Tyrewala. However, Sharan informs that the deal has not yet been signed between the two. "We have been in talks with Abbas but things are likely to formalise once his directorial debut Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na releases," says Sharan.

Tyrewala’s Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na is produced by Aamir Khan Productions and presented by PVR Pictures. It stars Imran Khan and Genelia D’Souza.

On the films front, Saregama India’s Bengali movie Khella directed by Rituparno Ghosh is slated to release on 11 July. The company’s other film Karma, Confessions and Holi is being targeted for September – October release.

On the other hand, Aparna Sen’s Japanese Wife is likely to release sometime next year. Sharan informs, "We want to take Aparna Sen’s movie to the Venice Film Festival and then plan its theatrical release."
