MUMBAI: The Minister of Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi released the DVD version of Bharat Ek Khoj, the serial based on Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s book The Discovery of India.
Dasmunsi said, "It can be an instrument to educate our future generations about the history of our great civilization. Whatever the cost, it would be made available in educational institutions and libraries around the country."
He added that he would take up the matter with the Ministry of Human Resource Development to facilitate this effort. Appreciating Prasar Bharti role as a public Broadcaster and in preserving and highlighting the cultural history of our nation, Dasmunsi exhorted private TV channels to be more sensitive towards issues and contribute to the social cause, rising above TRP’s and sole motive of profit making.
Bharat Ek Khoj director Shyam Benegal said that Indians wherever they are, would be interested in it since this tells the story of our history. Recalling the experience of making of it, he said that the 53 episodes were the result of daily shooting for 19 months at a stretch on over 500 actors at 144 different sets with the support of 10 script writers and guidance of 22 well known historians.
Film actor Om Puri and Prasar Bharti CEO B S Lalli were among those present on the occasion.
