Mumbai: Excel Home Videos and NDTV Lumiere have launched the DVD of the academy award nominated animation film Persepolis in India.
Persepolis is based on the international best-selling autobiographical graphic comic-book series by Franco Iranian artist Marjane Satrapi. Satrapi collaborated with comic artist Vincent Paronnaud to co-direct this animated movie adaptation, which is a tale of a young girl in war-torn Iran, who overcomes all the obstacles to mature into a wise woman.
The film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film and was named Best Animated Feature by the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the New York Online Film Critics as well as winning the Freedom of Expression Award from the National Board of Review.
The film has been made in three different languages namely English, French and Persian. The English-language version features the voice talents of Sean Penn, Gena Rowlands, and Iggy Pop, with Catherine Deneuve and Chiara Mastroianni reprising their roles from the original French-language version.
The DVD sports bonus features like Making of the Movie, Filmography etc. It is priced at Rs 499.
Excel Home Videos CEO Roby Abraham said, "The movie has tremendous word of mouth publicity. We are releasing the DVD in large numbers in anticipation of the demand."
