MUMBAI: Shringar Films, the distribution arm of Fame Cinemas, will release the Kamal Hasan starrer Dashavtar all across India on 17 April.
At a time when Hindi film producers have called a strike for no- show at all India national multiplex chains, Shringar is gearing to release this film at all cinemas in India.
Speaking exclusively to Businessofcinema.com Shringar Cinemas managing director Shyam Shroff says, “A month ago we decided to release Dashavtar on 17 April because there were very few film releases during this time period due to the IPL.”
A source informs, “The Hindi film producers and distributors are not too happy about Bal Krishna Shroff (brother of Shyam Shroff ) releasing Dashavtar at the time of the strike.”
Bal Krishna Shroff is the vice president of Indian Motion Pictures Distributors Association (IMPDA), which is not participating in the strike. When contacted Bal Krishna Shroff says, “We are going ahead with the release of Dashavtar. The strike has been called by the producers; however, the distributors are not involved in the strike.”
Another source informs, “The producers of Dashavtar were looking at selling the film for Rs 12 crores, but unfortunately it did not get any buyers. Hence the film’s release kept getting postponed. Now, finally the producer decided to release the film on commission basis through Shringar.”
Dashavtar’s Tamil version – Dashavtaram released a year ago. At a press conference held in Delhi on Tuesday actor Kamal Hasan announced that Dashavtar has a few surprise elements, which were not there in the films Tamil version. He further said, “Contrary to popular belief Dashavtarm is my career’s biggest hit film.”
