MUMBAI: The issue of sperm donation is serious and John Abraham’s recent foot-in-the-mouth statement comparing the issue as depicted in the film ‘Vicky Donor’ to the treatment of homosexuality in Dostana has certainly made the director squirm.
Director Shoojit Sircar said to businessofcinema.com, “I think John was trying to draw attention to the fact that we’ve made an entertaining film on a taboo subject, but we haven’t made a comedy on sperm donation, please!"
"In fact we have a major sperm bank Cryos International on board to answer all queries on sperm donation on our behalf. It’s an idea that still revolts and embarrasses a majority of Indians. We’re very shy of discussing artificial means of fertilization. Couples suffer years of childless existence rather than face the emabrassment of resorting to scientific and legal methods of external fertilization," he added
Trying hard to play down John’s faux pas Sircar says, “I haven’t made a comedy about sperm donation. The endeavour is to bring the issue out of the closet in a light tone so that it is acceptable to every section of the audience. We had a sperm-donation specialist Dr Malpani from Mumbai on board to guide us through the technicalities.”
The film’s hero veejay-turned-actor Ayushmann Khurana and its co-producer John Abraham would be actively indulging in sperm donation to show that the film Vicky Donor is not just a time-pass diversion for them.
