MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police has filed a case of non-cognizable offence against superstar Shah Rukh Khan, in response to a complaint filed by the Mumbai Cricket Association last night.
After KKR’s win against MI, Shah Rukh and his entourage wanted to celebrate on the pitch, but was not allowed to do so as per rules. He allegedly misbehaved with an elderly guard. When MCA officials intervened, he is said to have abused them. A complete ban on his entry to Wankhede Stadium is under consideration. Assistant Commissioner of Police Iqbal Shaikh agreed that the actor was drunk.
In his defense, Khan has said at a press conference, "I was not drunk, I had gone to pick up my children. The officials were extremely aggressive. I just got angry but I left after that. I said a few things in anger. I was one and they were 20-25 officials and they were extremely rude. When I tried to answer them, they hid behind others. They should apologise to me. They were extremely high-handed. If this is the kind of behaviour meted out to people then I would not go there. I think it’s unpardonable that you manhandle kids in the name of security."
Conceding that he was aggressive, Khan added that this was only due to provocation, "I will call Deshmukh. I will write a complaint about their behaviour and the kind of language they used. They manhandled little girls."
Under the Code of Criminal procedure in India, a non-cognizable offence is an offence in which police can neither register an FIR, investigate, nor effect arrest without the express permission or directions from the court. Thus, the star will get ample opportunity to explain his side of the story. "This is a grave matter. I have called for an urgent meeting and we shall discuss the matter following which we will decide the future course of action," said Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
For Shah Rukh, after being previously mired in many controversies, this scuffle is unwelcome news. He was recently summoned by Jaipur Court for allegedly smoking in public during an IPL match, and he was also in the spotlight in January this year for slapping director Shirish Kunder at a party hosted by Sanjay Dutt.
