Considering the box office performance of women-centric films released in 2016, trade pundits are of the opinion that Neerja is certainly the top grossing film.
Taran Adarsh says, “Neerja is a huge hit in terms of returns on investment. The film went from strength to strength with each passing day at the box office and also the fact that the film did remarkable business in its lifetime. Revenue generated from overseas and non theatrical avenues have also added to the profits.”
“Sonam Kapoor was simply remarkable in the film. She had transformed herself. I didn’t realise it was Sonam Kapoor. She was Neerja. It’s her most accomplished performance to date,” adds Taran.
Komal Nahta, another film trade expert says, “Sonam Kapoor played Neerja so convincingly that one is almost constrained to say that she brought the deceased braveheart airhostess alive! Great acting, great film…. both won’t be forgotten very easily! Plus, it is one of the big hits of 2016 when we consider cost versus profit figures!”
