MUMBAI: It’s been an extremely dismal week for Bollywood’s latest supernatural thriller ‘Talaash’. Starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji, the film directed by Reema Kagti released on 30 November.
While the first day business (Rs 128 million / Rs 12.8 crore net approximately) and the opening weekend collections were from decent to average; Monday onwards – when the weekdays began, the collections for ‘Talaash’ completely fizzled out.
As reported by businessofcinema.com, the four day total of the film had touched about Rs 505 million (Rs 50.5 crore net), inclusive of Monday.
Losing out business on a daily basis, here’s how the week looked for ‘Talaash’: On Tuesday, the film made Rs 55 million (Rs Rs 5.5 crores) net, By Wednesday the numbers dropped to Rs 45 million (Rs 4.5 crores) net
Thursday figures were Rs 35 million (Rs 3.5 crores net) and Friday was an extremely dismal Rs 20 million (Rs 2 crores) net.
For an Aamir Khan starrer, the actor who smashed box-office records with his ‘3 idiots’ in 2009, a first week total achievement of only Rs 660 million (Rs 66 crore net) is quite disappointing.
At this rate, the second week of the film looks very bleak.
The other two Khans of the reigning triumvirate have still delivered major blockbusters this year. As reported earlier, box office king Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ had made a cool Rs 1 Billion (Rs 100 crore) by its fifth day.
Even Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ (which was disadvantaged by two hurdles – tremendous competition from another big release, i.e. Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardaar’, and weekend state-wide bandh in the biggest business circuit – Maharashtra on account of the death of Bal Thackeray), still managed to cross the Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crore) mark at the domestic box office on its 10th day.
