MUMBAI: It’s a sad time for Priyanka Chopra and her family. The actress’s father Dr. Ashok Chopra succumbed to cancer and breathed his last at 12.30 PM today at the Kokilaben Ambani hospital in Mumbai.
Dr. Ashok Chopra fell ill around 2005, the time the former Miss World was shooting for Rohan Sippy’s ‘Bluffmaster.’ It was in 2008, he was diagnosed with cancer. Since then Priyanka Chopra, has always been worried about her father’s frail health. The actress recently held a mahamritunjay havan and had cancelled her work assignments to be beside her ailing dad.
Priyanka Chopra also used to be accompanied by her father in several award functions and recently was present with her in Vancouver, Canada, where she won the award for Best Actress for ‘Barfi.’ Dr. Ashok Chopra was always a very jovial person and the father-daughter always used to have a great time whenever seen together at award functions.
Dr. Ashok Chopra worked as a doctor for the Indian Army and retired in 1997 as lieutenant colonel. He also had participated in the reality show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma’ and was a exceptionally good singer. Priyanka Chopra had launched an album featuring Shabads (Verses from Guru Granth Sahib) sung by her father.
Priyanka Chopra, currently gearing up to play Mary Kom was silent about her father’s illness and never talked about it on the sets. She focused on her work and over the last few weeks had cancelled her appointments.
With the dad-daughter having spent such wonderful moments, this is a hard time for Priyanka Chopra to battle this grave loss. He is survived by wife, Priyanka and son Sidharth.
Actor Shah Rukh Khan who is close to the actress and has acted with her in ‘Don’ and ‘Don 2’ visited the hospital to see her ailing father.
Other celebrities who also have tweeted their condolences for the actress include Vishal Dadlani, Sophie Choudry, Bipasha Basu amongst others.
