MUMBAI: It was heartening to see that ardent fans of Rajesh Khanna, who was fondly known as ‘Kaka’, still kept him alive in their hearts, and showed up at his residence in Mumbai in hordes, to pay tribute to the superstar on his first death anniversary.
Rajesh Khanna passed away last year on 18 July, at the age of 69. He was suffering from a prolonged illness, and on his first death anniversary, fans as well as Bollywood celebrities turned up to pay homage to the first ever true ‘Superstar’ of Bollywood.
Outside his residence Aashirvad, fans milled around, flaunting picture postcards. A large poster of Khanna in his younger days was put up.
His family, including wife Dimple Kapadia, daughter Twinkle, grandchildren Aarav and Nitara (Akshay Kumar and Twinkle’s children) were present on the occasion to mark Khanna’s first death anniversary. Also spotted were Subhash Ghai, Naved Jaffery, Kabir Sadanand and Shehzad Khan.
Akshay Kumar tweeted yesterday, describing the legendary superstar: “It’s been a year today, yet the loss is still so fresh. I don’t quite think any of us have accepted my father in law’s devastating departure.. To Mr. Rajesh Khanna, they make very few like you, you are a Father, a Legend & a very treasured man, who will never be forgotten. You are in our hearts today & always. Love & eternal prayers, from your entire family.”
Rajesh Khanna was best known for super hit films like ‘Aradhana’, ‘Ittefaq’, ‘Khamoshi’, ‘Safar’, ‘The Train’, ‘Kati Patang’, ‘Dushmun’, ‘Anand’ and ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’.
