MUMBAI: Looks like the music has left the Dharma Productions building.

Karan Johar has lost two composers on two of his upcoming productions. While Salim-Sulaiman apparently left ‘Ungli’ over date issues, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy left ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ after Karan Johar asked them to “let this one pass”. But the deeper story here to is ‘dates’.

There was buzz that Salim-Sulaiman left ‘Ungli’ due to differences overt he distribution of royalty as well as some creative differences. But Salim of Salim-Sulaiman said, “We did not differ on royalty. We simply had date issues. We got very busy with other assignments. We are still very much doing the background score of Karan Johar’s other film ‘Gori Tere Pyar Mein’.”

On the other hand, Ehsaan Noorani of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy said, “We got very busy with our concerts abroad. Also, Karan had to change the dates of his film according to Parineeti’s schedule. Our dates didn’t work out.” But what happened to the one song that they had composed for the movie? “It is a sweet song but it will not be used in the film.”

Incidentally, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have another Dharma Production movie in the pipeline in ‘2 States’.

‘Ungli’ is directed by Rensil D’silva, and stars Emraan Hashmi, Kangna Ranaut and Sanjay Dutt and is currently without a release date. ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’, on the other hand, is Vinil Mathew’s directorial debut, and stars Parineeti Chopra and Siddharth Malhotra together for the first time. It is scheduled to release on 7 February, 2014.

So who will step into Salim-Sulaiman and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s shoes? Dharma Productions has worked with Ajay-Atul, Amit Trivedi, Pritam and Vishal-Shekhar before. We could see any of them step into the role soon.
