MUMBAI: Bollywood couple Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao have been blessed with a son, who was born through IVF to a surrogate mother at a private clinic in Mumbai Dec 1.

Aamir and Kiran confirmed the news, saying: "It gives us the greatest joy to share with you the good news of the birth of our baby boy. This baby is especially dear to us because he was born to us after a long wait and some difficulty."

This is Kiran Rao’s first baby, while Aamir has a son, Junaid, and a daughter, Ira, from his first wife Reena. Aamir ended his 15-year-old marriage to Reena in 2002.

During the filming of Ashutosh Gowariker’s "Lagaan", Aamir met assistant director Kiran, and they fell in love and tied the knot in 2005.

In 2009, Kiran got pregnant, but she had a miscarriage. But now the couple is happy.

Kiran and Aamir said that due to medical complications, "We were advised to have a baby through IVF – surrogacy, and we feel very grateful to the Almighty that all has gone well. We are humbled by the greatness of god, the miracles of science, and the kindness and love of our families and friends in being there for us while respecting our privacy."
