Aamir Khan scripts 3-pronged strategy for TZP’s Oscar push

Mumbai: Aamir Khan’s acumen for movie promotion is unparalleled, unarguably! But promoting a movie to pull Indian audiences to theatres is a different ball game than promoting it to woo Academy members. But trust Khan to have his basics in place, even as just 48 hours have passed when news broke that Taare Zameen Par is India’s selection for 81st Academy Awards.

"Firstly, we have to create awareness about Taare Zameen Par and make it available in Los Angeles, New York and London where many Academy members are present and can see the movie in order to rate it. Secondly, we will also hold a lot screenings of the movie and place ads in local newspapers there to inform people. We had done this during Lagaan as well and most producers do it because all Academy members may not be able to see a movie in one show itself. Thirdly, I will have to hire an international PR agency which will create awareness about the movie," said Aamir Khan at a press conference held in Mumbai.

In addition to the above, Khan will also meet his overseas theatrical distributors UTV Motion Pictures, overseas home video distributors – Walt Disney and overseas satellite rights holder Zee Cinema in order to explore various possibilities to create awareness about Taare Zameen Par.

Despite Khan’s next film Ghajini’s release date approaching closer and his next production Delhi Belly mounting sets soon, Khan feels time crunch will not be an issue as he has to make a visit only to LA. Moreover, his experiences during the Lagaan nomination at Academy Awards will also come handy and may also lend a positive impact on Academy members too.

"I hope we can make India proud this time," said Khan on a concluding note.
