MUMBAI: After releasing Peepli [Live] in India, the US, Australia and the UAE, producer Aamir Khan is gearing up to release the movie in the UK on 24 September.
Khan plans on touring UK to extensively promote the movie, which has been received well at the box office. Khan has also requested his fans in the UK to watch the film only when it officially releases there and not through pirated DVDs and downloads.
As was earlier reported by Businessofcinema.com, in its opening week in India, Peepli [Live] did net business of Rs 210 million (Rs 21 crore). With 109 overseas prints, it grossed another $640,000 abroad.
In the US, the film released on 64 prints and has did around $3,64,000 in the opening weekend, which is higher than most mainstream commercial films with a big cast. In the Middle East the film released during Ramadaan and opened at $175,000 on 18 prints. South Africa, Pakistan, Singapore, Benelux and Kenya contributed to about $59,000 in the opening weekend.
