MUMBAI: Television actor Akshay Singh is all set for his big-screen debut with Vash, which is scheduled for a September release. What’s more, the actor has also been signed opposite Deepal Shaw in his second movie Vikalp.
Vash is directed by Navneet Baj Sahni and also stars Jackie Shroff, Rajpal Yadav and Lucky Ali. Singh plays the character of Inspector Bose – an idealistic police officer.
Singh has already started shooting for his next movie Vikalp, which is directed by Sachin Karande. So far, he has shot for 10 days and hopes to wrap up work in mid-August. Vikalp is due to be released in December. “Sachin offered me the lead role after seeing the trial of Vash,” says Singh.
Speaking about Vash, he says, “The chemistry between me-a young energetic, intense and fresh out of the police academy- with the experienced and mature Jackie Shroff stands out in the film,” states Singh.
About his interaction with the other actors, he adds, “Jaggu Da would always come and encourage me after I gave a good shot. He even saw the trial show and called saying, ‘Dude, you’ve done a great job.’ So also did Lucky Ali who said that he hadn’t seen a cop like me on screen.”
On televison, he has acted in the popular prime time Star Plus serial Kashmeer opposite Gul Panang. He was also seen in Star One’s Hey… Yehi To Hai Woh. Saying that he still gets offers for TV serials, he adds that he’d prefer being an anchor for a reality or film-based show rather than a daily drama. “TV is hectic. My ultimate dream is to be seen on a 70 mm screen so TV does take a backseat.”
Last year, Singh also featured in one of the longest running Cadbury Bytes advertisement campaign opposite Traffic Signal actress, Neetu Chandra. This ad, which ran for almost eight months, was so popular that he got tagged as the Cadbury Bytes boy.
