MUMBAI: A budding writer by the name of Kapil Chopra has filed a case against the Bhatts for plagiarism in ‘Jannat 2’. The writer claims that this sequel’s story is created by him, and is demanding credit.
Presided over by Justice Dharma Adhikari, the hearing of the case took place last evening. Apparently, Chopra had registered his story with the Film Writers Association in 2007. The script came in the hands of director Kunal Deshmukh, because the writer narrated the script to him and had also left a bound copy at Bhatts office.
Why has Chopra only come out with this allegation now, one day before the release?
A leading daily reports, that when Kapil saw the promos of the film he realised that it was his story. The characters, plot and the dialogues were strikingly similar to his script. He met Kunal and Mukesh Bhatt but they denied his allegation. Then the young writer filed his case against the producers who are allegedly known for lifting films.
Apparently, The Bhatts have done this before, where they have supposedly used parts of Kapil’s script in ‘Blood Money’ and ‘Murder 2’.
The law firm Krishnamurthy and Co is representing Kapil, has demanded an injunction on the release of the film and for due credit.
