MUMBAI: Rang De Basanti, Omkara, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Dhoom 2 and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehnaa lead this year’s Bollywood Movie Award nominations, announced on 30 April 2007.
Dhoom 2, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Omkara, Rang De Basanti, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehnaa have been nominated for the Best Film Award, while Rakesh Roshan (Krrish), Karan Johar (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehnaa), Rajkumar Hirani (Lage Raho Munnabhai), Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (Rang De Basanti) and Vishal Bharadwaj (Omkara) have been nominated for the Best Director award.
Aamir Khan (Rang De Basanti), Ajay Devgan (Omkara), Hrithik Roshan (Dhoom 2), Sanjay Dutt (Lage Raho Munnabhai) and Shah Rukh Khan (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehnaa) are competing for the Best Actor award, while the competition for the Best Actress award is between Aishwarya Rai (Dhoom 2), Bipasha Basu (Corporate), Kajol (Fanaa), Kareena Kapoor (Omkara) and Rani Mukerjee (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehnaa).
Abhishek Bachchan (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna), Arshad Warsi (Lage Raho Munnabhai), Kunal Kapoor (Rang De Basanti), John Abraham (Baabul) and Vivek Oberoi (Omkara) are vying for the Best Actor in a supporting role (male) award. For the Best Actor in a supporting role (female) category, the nominees are Kirron Kher (Rang De Basanti), Konkona Sen Sharma (Omkara), Preity Zinta (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna), Soha Ali Khan (Rang De Basanti) and Ameesha Patel (Ankahee).
Those competing in the Best Actor in a negative role (Male/Female) are Aamir Khan (Fanaa), Esha Deol (Ankahee), Saif Ali Khan (Omkara), Shah Rukh Khan (Don) and Shiney Ahuja (Gangster).
Siddharth (Rang De Basanti), Upen Patel (36 China Town), Vinod Sherawat (Gafla), Rehaan Khan (Jaana –Let’s fall in love) and Amarjit (Iqraar – By Chance) have been nominated for the best debut (male) award, while Kangana Ranaut (Gangster), Onjolie Nair (Holiday), Alice Patten (Rang De Basanti), Bhumicka Singh (Aap Ki Khatir) and Vipasha Agarwal (I See You) have been nominated in the best debut (female) category.
The competition for the Best Costume Designer award is between Manish Malhotra (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehnaa), Lovleen Bains and Arjun Bhasin (Rang De Basanti), Aki Narula (Don), Sabyaschi (Baabul) and Anna Singh and Abu Sandeep (Umrao Jaan).
The Awards 2007, to be held on 26 May 2007 at the Nassau Coliseum, New York will feature performances by by Bipasha Basu, Arjun Rampal, Vivek Oberoi, Urmilla Matondkar, Soha Ali Khan, Neha Dhupia, Kangana Ranaut. Mona Singh, UK’s Raghav, Pakistan actress and singer Shahida Mini, Caribbean Singer Ricki Ramdehal and Pakistan singer Waris Beg.
