Cinemaya Media forays into movies, TV

MUMBAI: North American media-entertainment-marketing services company CineMaya Media Group that caters to the Indian diaspora, has launched its operations in India. The company also announced its intention of foraying into film and production as well as launch the first CineMaya Media Group Indian and American Achiever Awards.

CineMaya Media Group president Nayan Padrai said, “We are very excited about the launch of our business in India, where the company will focus on the entertainment space. We are launching films, returning to television productions, and developing international events such as The Indian & American Achiever Award. We are also developing media properties in India, similar to the integrated model we have in the US and Canada.”

The awards will be held on 13 September at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Supported by the US-India Business Council, this inaugural event is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of India’s Independence and recognising individuals and MNCs who have contributed towards the collective advancement and growth of the two largest democracies in the world. The ambassador from India to the United States of America Ronen Sen will be the chief guest.

The event to be hosted by actor Kunal Lhemu, will also feature performances by maestros of Indian music like Dr Balamurali Krishna and Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty (in a duet – jugalbandi), Pandit Birju Maharaj and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma.

The awards are instituted to recognise individuals and companies who have excelled in their fields, in four separate categories. There will be two honorees in each category, one an Indian and the other an American. They are: Innovation, Science & Technology, Arts, Entertainment and Media, Multi-National Company and Gandhi Lifetime Achievement Award

CineMaya Media Group head of Indian operations Ravi Kemmu said, “Our pioneering work in the television space for international productions from India has been unparalleled. Almost 10 years ago, we were the first to start with international television shows such as Mausam, N-R-Eyes, Dollar Bahu, Ek Mulakat, and events such as the Music Festival of India, Zee Gold Bollywood Awards amongst others, mainly for audiences in the US. We are now entering the domestic market in India for films, television and events with a lot of enthusiasm, professionalism and western sensibilities.”

CineMaya Media Group has instituted a Scholarship Endowment through this event, which aims to encourage the efforts of deserving Indian-American students who have displayed great potential in various subjects, and give them knowledge, resources, and mentoring for advancement from the honorees in each category for one year. Four undergraduate students will be awarded scholarships of $5,000 each (one per category of awards).
