MUMBAI: CNN-IBN and IBN 7 will be airing a series celebrating 60 years of Indian cinema titled Splendid 60: Six Decades of Cinema. The four-episode series, presented every Saturday by Rajeev Masand on CNN-IBN at 10 pm and Amrapali Sharma on IBN 7 at 11 pm, will focus on the journey of Indian cinema along with some of the top filmmakers choosing their personal all-time favourite film of the last six decades.
Indian cinema, whether commercial or parallel, has come a very long way since 1947 to become one of the most popular in the World. The show re-traces the major steps and developments in Indian cinematic history to gain insight into this diverse industry that is an important part of Indian culture.
The series will present special segments discussing sexuality and the Hindi heroine; the changing face of the Hindi film hero; the growth of parallel cinema; with modern day director’s flashbacking to their favourites from the last 6 decades of cinema.
The show sheds light on the decade-by-decade evolution of cinema in the country and how it came about becoming a multi-billion dollar industry today.
