MUMBAI: A celebrity packed cricket match on Wednesday at the Police Gymkhana in Mumbai heralded the Corporate Olympics, jointly organised by Fountainhead Promotions and Events and the Aditya Birla Group.
The 10 day sports festival is being held at different locations across the city from 7 to 17 March 2007. The inaugural cricket match was played among wellknown media personalities including Harsha Bhogle, Rakesh Maria, Atul Kasbekar, Cyrus Broacha, Kunal Vijaykar, Kelly Dorji, Vikram Sathaye, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sunil Nayak, Robin Morris, Vinod Raghavan, Kersi, and Alistair Woodham.
The Corporate Olympics aim to get corporate honchos on the playing field from the boardroom. The Olympics include a range of activities from cricket, football, tennis, squash and various other sports.
Corporates taking part in the Olympics include Jet Airways, Music Broadcast, Epicenter Technologies, Euro RSCG, Set India, JWT, HLL, Hutch, ICICI Bank, KPMG, Rabo India Finance, Star India and Times Global Broadcasting.
The Corporate Olympics committee comprises cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, Arjuna awardee Adille Sumariwalla, tennis champ Leander Paes, Arjuna awardee M M Somaiya, World Billiards champion Michael Ferreira, Arjuna awardee Mervyn Fernandes, former Ranji trophy player Piyush Pandey, Special inspector general of police Rakesh Maria and Arjuna awardee Viren Rasquinha.
