Court rejects Shiney Ahuja’s second bail plea

MUMBAI: The sessions court has rejected actor Shiney Ahuja’s bail plea once again nearly three months after he was arrested for allegedly raping his maid at his Mumbai home on 14 June.

The court had earlier rejected his bail plea on 8 July on the ground that it is a ‘serious offence’ and there is prima facie evidence against him.

Ahuja, who is currently lodged in Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail, filed for bail once again on 5 September but was rejected on the same grounds.

The charges against the actor will be framed on 23 September before fast track court judge S.R. Trivedi after which the trial will start on a regular day-to-day basis by the end of the month.

Ahuja faces a minimum seven-year jail sentence if the charges against him are proven.
