Crest gives WOW awards to its employees

MUMBAI: The wow factor in animation has just gone up with Crest announcing its WOW (Work of Wonder) awards for 2008. The awards have been given in appreciation and acknowledgement of creativity, talent and efforts in the animation workplace at Crest. The awards were streamed live at Zaver Ben Popatlal Auditorium in Mumbai on 7 January.


Present at the occasion to support and encourage the Crestians was Monster Buster Club director Jean Louis.


The awards were broadly categorized in three categories—CGI, Support Function, and Broad Parameters. All artists were invited to put up their work for nomination, provided the same is part of the workload.


A panel of eminent luminaries supporting this endeavour includes noted film director Shyam Benegal. It is boom time for Indian animation and the awards will showcase the rich and talented pool of artists that India has.


Each category had one award each encompassing the very Best of Model, Rigs, Textures, Animatics, Backgrounds and Sets, Matte, Lighting, Effects, Rendering and Compositing, Innovative and State of Art Technological support, Human Capital Development, Indigenously built proprietary software tools, Industry Best Practices in the field of Production and Corporate Governance. 


The winners would be presented with a trophy conceived and designed by the artists of Crest.


The judging was based on Broad Parameters such as: Characterization, Visualization, Acting, Creativity, Innovation, Visual Appeal and Productivity.


“The Indian Animation Industry has been witnessing a tremendous growth in the last few years. This award is an initiative to give our creative professionals a recognition in the animation industry,” says Crest Animation Studios Limited CEO A K Madhavan.


“Over the years Crest has received a number of awards. We, at Crest, wished to acknowledge, appreciate and recognize the contributions of our employees the force behind all our accomplishments. Crest WOW Awards will provide a platform for the employees of Crest to showcase their creative brilliance to a wider audience, it will spur us further in our pursuit of excellence and thereby create new benchmarks”, says Crest Animation Studios Limited vice president HR and operations P Rajasekhar,


Rajasekhar further added, “This is the first of its kind in the industry and by next year we plan to extend it beyond Crest so as to bring the best of CGI talent together.”
