Dawsen Infotech readying animation film on Shakuntala

MUMBAI: Kolkata based Dawsen Infotech is readying an animation flick based on Kalidas’ play on Shakuntala.

The movie is being directed by V C Bhalotia, who is also the promoter of Dawsen Infotech. Currently, the production work for this movie is underway in Phillipines & Singapore and the makers are eyeing for a 2008 end release.

"Shakuntala is a 100 minute 2D animation movie which we are targeting for the world audience because the story of Shakuntala is popularly known worldwide. The film is being made on a budget of Rs 10 – 15 crores," says Bhalotia.

Dawsen has previously worked on an animated TV series for Zee Bangla called Phakurmar Jhuli, which was on air for four years.

Kalidas’ play Abhigyanshakuntala is the story of King Dushyanta who, while on a hunting trip, meets Shakuntala, the adopted daughter of a sage, and marries her. A mishap befalls them when he is summoned back to court: Shakuntala, pregnant with their child, inadvertently offends a visiting sage and incurs a curse, by which Dushyanta will forget her completely until he sees the ring he has left with her. After some travails, they are finally reunit. In 1961 V. Shantaram made the movie Stree based on Shakuntala.
