Mumbai: Bollywood movies lending themselves to creating games is a common sight now. Following Ghajini and Chandni Chowk to China being made into games, the latest film to join the list is Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D.
Online gaming and mobile games company Indiagames launched the game. Present to launch the game were the two lead actresses of the film Mahi and Kalki along with Indiagames CEO Vishal Gondal.
Speaking at the event Gondal said, "Bollywood based games have been a great hit with the Indian mobile gamers. This has given producers a tremendous opportunity to extend the experience of the film to a user’s mobile screen. After seeing success with games like CC2C and Ghajini we are very pleased to launch a game around Dev D."
It is learnt that in the game, the virtual world where the user plays, is based on an episode after the characters in the film, Dev and Chanda, have split. On an average movie games see anywhere between 50,000 to 1,50,000 downloads and priced at an average price of Rs 50, the game stands to provide an additional revenue stream for the film. Game downloads are more prevalent in smaller cities as compared to metros and hence apart from proving to be a money making venture, it is also seen as a marketing tool to promote the film.
Dev D stars Abhay Deol, Mahi and Kalki in the lead roles and is scheduled to release on 6 February, 2009.
