E-City Ventures to roll 150 Talkie Town screens by 2011 end

MUMBAI: E-City Ventures plans to roll out 150 Talkie Town screens in Tier II & Tier III cities by end of 2011.

Talkie Town is the company’s value cinema brand. E-City recently launched its Talkie Town in Mumbai.

The company has taken over the single screen Pinky Cinema in Andheri East and re-branded it as Pinky Talkie Town. While Talkie Town already has existing properties in Gulburga, Hyderabad and Goa this is the first one in Mumbai. The renovation of Pinky Cinema cost approximately Rs 12.50 million (Rs 1.25 crores).

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Fun Multiplex COO Vishal Kapur said "We have not bought over Pinky Cinema, we’ve taken it on rental basis. However, we have completely renovated the theater right from the lobby to the seats, the projection screen and sound system."

Kapur adds, "With Talkie Town we want to give our viewers state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, seating comfort and screens. We aim to raise the bar for value theatrical and entertainment space in Mumbai."

Presently tickets are priced at a nominal rate of Rs 70, irrespective of the time slot. "We will be revising the ticket prices once things start settling down, we may make changes in the ticket rates according to the time of the show," informs Kapur.

The renovated Pinky Talkie Town has a seating capacity of 630 and has computerised ticketing, comfortable auditoriums coupled with neat and clean snack bars.
