MUMBAI: On the occasion of Satyajit Ray’s 86 birth anniversary on 2 May 2007, Fame in association with Sony Pictures will screen three films of Ray beginning this Friday to next week.

A press conference was held at Fame Adlabs held to announce this initiative. Present were Shatrugan Sinha, Poonam Sinha, Sharmila Tagore, Shantaram, Anupam Kher, Deepti Naval, Govind Swaroop, Javed Siddiqui, Talat Aziz and Uday Singh.

“We at Sony Pictures wish to celebrate his birth anniversary by bringing a viewing experience of some of his films, along with a rare collection of photos of Mr. Ray,” said Sony Pictures India head independent and classic pictures Sharon Thomas.

Sharmila Tagore added, “Satyajiy Ray is the only Indian director who is better known but his films were less seen, may be because of the language problem. I would like to thank Sony and Fame for promoting good cinema and making available Bengali films and Ray’s works outside of Bengal and in Mumbai.” Tagore owes her acting prowess to Ray she said for it was he who introduced her to the world of cinema.

The films that will be shown include Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne, Aryaner Din Ratri and Pratidwandi. They will be screened from 18 May – 24 May for the evening show.
