Mumbai: Veteran film distributor for the overseas market Chunibhai M. Savani passed away on the evening of August 23 in Mombasa, Kenya. He was 79 and leaves behind his wife, son and daughter.
Savani was considered a pioneer in Indian film distribution
and exhibition in East Africa; viz; Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, with a chain of luxury theatres built only to show Indian films in that part of the world from the early 1950s.
Unfortunately, it was only 12 days back
that Savani lost his elder son, Jitu. His other son, Manu Savani is the president of Gala Entertainment Corporation in the US.
