Film producers’ cartel unite against multiplexes; no show on

MUMBAI: The Hindi film producers’ cartel has come together in large numbers to show their solidarity towards each others in the revenue sharing matter against multiplexes. On 24 March, a meeting was called for among members of all Hindi producers associations.

This meeting was organized in order to brief the producers’ fraternity at large about the ongoing issues with the multiplexes.

Until now, regular meetings were being held between corporate companies, few distributors and producers who were representing all Hindi producers associations.

However according to information available with Businessofcinema.com, on 24 March a gathering of approximately 50 – 60 producers was present at the meeting including the likes of Yash Chopra, Mukesh Bhatt, Ramesh Sippy, Ravi Chopra, Karan Johar, Rakesh Roshan, Sunil Lulla, Ronnie Screwala, Sandeep Bhargava, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sajid Nadiadwala, Boney Kapoor, Ramesh Taurani, Kumar Taurani, Ratan Jain, Vashu Bhagnani, Ashok Thakeria, Manmohan Shetty, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani to name a few. What’s more, the meeting was also attended by actor turned producer Saif Ali Khan.

A source present at the meeting informs, "The meeting was organized in order to keep all the producers in the Hindi film industry abreast with the latest developments and to elaborately explain to them why this tussle is taking place with the multiplexes. The producers were told about revenue share, outstanding payment, illicit billing to distributors etc. The producers have offered full support from their end and given a go ahead with the strike in movie releases and in order to resolve the matter."
