Mumbai: Fox Star Studios has acquired the worldwide rights of Karan Johar directed My Name Is Khan, which is co-produced by Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment.

While Fox Star will market and distribute the movie in India, Fox Searchlight Pictures will release it in the US and Twentieth Century Fox International will distribute the movie outside of India and the US.

Fox has of as now retained all rights including satellite, home video, music etc of My Name Is Khan.

The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol and is slated to release in February next year.

"For us it was important to find a partner who is like-minded, has a similar vision and the capability to take Indian cinema to international markets. This movie is essentially about human emotions that are relevant to people across the world, and I am happy that audiences unfamiliar with these films will get a chance to see what Indian cinema has to offer to the world," said Johar.

Khan added, "This is one of the most important films that I have done in my career so far. I hope that I don’t let this film down as an actor and as a co-producer."

Fox Star Studios CEO Vijay Singh said, "Karan and Shah Rukh have been the most successful combination in Bollywood, and we are delighted to be working together on My Name Is Khan. This relationship will help us further build the Fox Star Studios’ presence in India, and provide an opportunity to demonstrate our marketing and distribution capabilities."

Until Dostana, which was released last year, Yash Raj Films was the sole distributor of all Dharma Productions’ films. However, earlier this year, the company signed a two film distribution deal with UTV Motion Pictures for Wake Up! Sid and Kurbaan. And now comes the latest deal with Fox Star Studios.

Moreover, some of the other films that are in the pipeline from Dharma Productions are: Puneet Malhotra directed I Hate Luv Storys, which stars Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor; Siddharth Malhotra’s Stepmom remake, which stars Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal and the animation film Koochie Koochie Hota Hai being directed by Tarun Mansukhani.
