MUMBAI: The stars of the South film industry descended at the Novotel hotel in Hyderabad for the South Filmfare Awards today. The annual event pays tribute to the industry that churns out the maximum hits in the world. Genelia D’Souza too has flown down to Hyderabad for the occasion.
Genelia has been nominated for Best Actress for her Tamil film, Santosh Subramaniam. The film is a remake of the Telugu version, Bommarillu, which is also being made in Hindi, It’s My Life. The actress was shooting in Hyderabad for her Telugu film, Katha and had come to Mumbai for a special shoot. However, she took the flight back to Hyderabad immediately as she had to rehearse for her performance.
The Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na actress will also be performing at the awards ceremony tonight. She confirmed to Businessofcinema.com, "Yes, I will be performing to a medley of songs from Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films. I have been so busy shooting that I have hardly had any time to rehearse. I hope all goes well tonight."
Genelia is a big name in the South and the actress commands a bigger price there than she does in Bollywood. However, with the success of her last release, things are looking better for Genelia and one will see more of her in Bolywood, she promises.
