Govt to increase mini-theaters in Odisha state

GOA: Government of Odisha Minister of Information & Public Relations Prafulla Samal said that plans were afoot to build 314 mini theaters at every block in Odisha.

“There are only 81 cinema halls in the State and many films do not get an opportunity to exhibit,” he said.

Samal expressed the need to widen the cinema hall network in the State. He appealed to Central Government, banks and NFDC to come forward to help cine industry in Odisha. "The Platinum jubilee celebrations of Odiya films will be celebrated in the State in a big way in 2011 as part of the Platinum jubilee celebrations of creation of State of Odisha," he added.

The minister also invited the filmmakers to come and shoot their films at the beautiful locales of Odisha such as Puri, Konark, Bhubaneswar and Gopalpur. Inviting suggestions from the media persons, he said that he would take their and film makers’ feedback to the chief minister, and hoped that the State Government may announce some incentives in the next financial year. He assured the film industry that State Government will do the needful to promote Odiya cinema in the State. He and said measures for the welfare of film workers and artists should be taken.

About 600 Odiya films have been produced so far.
