Harry Potter takes in Rs 105 million at Indian box office

MUMBAI: The sixth installment of Harry Potter has grossed Rs 105.54 million (Rs 10.55 crore) at the Indian box office in its opening weekend.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has got the biggest opening weekend of all time for a Warner Bros film in India, beating Harry Potter 5 (Rs 94,355,459) by 12 per cent.
The movie has also taken the fourth biggest opening weekend of all time for a MPA film beating Mummy 3 (Rs 95,511,777) by 11 per cent as well as biggest opening weekend of 2009 for a MPA film beating Wolverine (Rs 74,159,000) by 42 per cent and Transformers (Rs 61,876,370) by 71 per cent.
At Imax too, the movie has beaten the record of Superman Returns by 32 per cent.
"We are elated by the results. The Harry Potter franchise continues to weave it’s magic worldwide. We look forward to breaking more records with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1 and Part 2)," said Warner Bros. Pictures India deputy managing director Denzil Dias.
Worldwide, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince’s opening weekend box office collections stood at $394 million.
