Hrithik, Kajol bag top Filmfare honours

MUMBAI: Hrithik Roshan walked away with the award for the Best Actor for his performance in Dhoom:2 and Kajol was adjudged the Best Actress for her performance in Fanaa at the Filmfare Awards 2006 held on 24 February 2007 in Mumbai.

The all-new format for the Fair One Filmfare Awards 2006 converted the usual dance and award night to a formal black-tie soiree. The awards this year were a glitzy affair, attended by the who’s who of the Indian film industry including stalwarts like Yash Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan.

The 52nd edition of the awards, sponsored by Elder Pharmaceuticals, was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Preity Zinta and Juhi Chawla.

Performances by Sridevi, Amrita Rao, Rani Mukerji, Bipasha Basu and Hrithik Roshan were recorded prior to the actual Awards ceremony and aired on 25 February 2007 on Sony. The rare exception was a performance by music director A R Rahman, who performed live during the event.

Other awardees include Abhishek Bachchan as the Best Supporting Actor for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna; Konkana Sen Sharma as the Best Supporting Actress for Omkara; Saif Ali Khan as the Best Actor in a Negative Role for Omkara; Arshad Warsi as the Best Comedian for Lage Raho Munnabhai, while Rang De Basanti was named the Best Film for 2006.

Kangana Ranaut won an award for her debut in Gangster. The Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Javed Akhtar and Jaya Bachchan. The Critics Award for the Best Actor was presented to Aamir Khan for his portrayal of DJ in Rang De Basanti and the critics’ award for Best Actress was presented to Kareena Kapoor for her performance in Omkara.

The Sony Fair One Face of the Year Award, which was introduced last year, was presented by Elder Pharma’s marketing director Dr Anuj Saxena and Sony CEO Kunal Dasgupta to Kangana Ranaut.
