Mumbai : After the success of My Brother Nikhil, director Onir is ready to roll out his latest offering Bas Ek Pal. This film boasts an ensemble cast comprising Urmila Matondkar, Juhi Chawla, Sanjay Suri, Jimmy Shergill and Rehan Engineer.
As the title Bas Ek Pal suggests, the movie is about a single moment that changes the lives of five people. “Bas Ek Pal is a very urban and modern day setting which explores modern urban relationships and how that one moment keeps changes their relationship with each other”, says Onir.
“The film has been made on a budget of 40 million. It will release on 8 September. Overseas distribution is being finalised between Adlabs and Eros and for domestic distribution I am trying to rope in Nimbus for Mumbai, Delhi and U.P.” informs Shailesh Singh, producer of Bas Ek Pal.
In Bas Ek Pal Onir has again named his lead character Nikhil. “I have written 6 scripts so far and all lead characters are Nikhil. Actually I am very bad with names and numbers, so I prefer keeping the same name for all characters to avoid confusion. Moreover I had written this script for 3 years prior to My Brother Nikhil. As a matter of fact I have even repeated Anamika in this film.”
Onir has repeated Sanjay and Juhi yet again in this film. “Sanjay was a part of this film right from its scripting stage. Juhi has a lot of grey shades in her character, which she has never been played before. So I wanted to take up the challenge of portraying her in this way”
This is Urmila’s first film with Onir. She plays the character of a civil engineer in the film. “I had loved Onir’s earlier film My Brother Nikhil. He came to me with this script and it was so well written that I had to hardly work on my character”, says Urmila.
“I play a character of a self made man, who is a little selfish but very passionate. He thinks less from mind. He lives from heart.” says Sanjay Suri.
The music of Bas Ek Pal is rendered by Pritam, Viveck Philip, Pyarelal’s nephew Mithoon. This is Mithoon’s first film as an original composer. He has earlier done remixes of Woh Lamhe in Zeher and Aadat in Kalyug. The music of the film was released on 4 August. Madhur Bhandarker was invited as special guest on this occasion.
The film was recently premiered at the Osian Film Festival. “The film received a tremendous response. There were 3000 people watching my film in a hall which had sating capacity of only 2000 people many more waiting to get in” says an elated Onir.
