IFC pockets Shahid-Kareena starrer

MUMBAI: The Indian Film Company (IFC) has acquired the worldwide rights of Imtiaz Ali’s yet untitled film, produced by Shree Ashatavinayak Cine Vision.

IFC has acquired the domestic and international rights for theatre and home entertainment along with the music, satellite and all other ancillary rights including digital, wireless and new media rights.

The musical romantic comedy stars Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, is slated for release in October this year. As has already been reported by Businessofcinema.com, the title of the film is being chosen through a consumer contest and will be revealed later this month.

India International Film Advisors CEO Sandeep Bhargava said, “We are delighted to have acquired the worldwide rights to this film, which has been the subject of much discussion within the industry. The acquisition is in line with our stated objective of creating a portfolio of films across different genres and languages.”

Pertinent to note here is that Studio 18 (a part of Viacom 18 – the joint venture company between Viacom and Network 18, which will also be collaborating on films for IFC) has a two year co-production deal with Shree Ashtavinayak Films for four films with an outlay of Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crores).
