MUMBAI: Deepa Mehta’s film Water starring John Abraham, Lisa Ray and Seema Biswas has been selected for the Oscars in the Foreign Film category as an entry from Canada. A special Oscar committee will screen Water and 82 other entries to determine the five nominees.
Ravi Chopra will soon be releasing the film in India. “I am planning to release Water this year. Since there are so many big banner films lined for release in October, November and December, I am looking for a reasonably free week because this film needs to be nurtured,” Chopra informs.
Water deals with the lives of widows in India in the 1940s. The movie was the official opening night gala of the 2005 Toronto film festival.
