K Sera Sera wins legal battle against Zee on Ek

MUMBAI: K Sera Sera the producer of Bobby Deol’s Ek- The Power Of One was in for a rude shock when Zee the company to which the all India distribution rights of the movie was sold, backed out of the film two months prior to its release and also filed a case in the Bombay High Court in order to reclaim its advance payment of Rs 4 crores.

The High Court instead passed a judgment favoring producers K Sera Sera. In the meantime, IDBI Bank which financed the film agreed to take over the film and licensed the film’s rights to a third party so that the film’s release on 27 March is not hampered.

K Sera Sera executive director Sanjay Lai says, “Zee breached on the contract so IDBI took over the film and will release it in conjunction with a third party. Now we have moved the court and filed a case on Zee against the financial damages suffered by us.”

“This is a classic case in Bollywood which is favoring the producer, especially at a time when most distributors are either backing out of projects or renegotiating deals. It will be a lesson for all,” says a source closely associated with the film.

At the time of filing this story, Zee’s Jayantilal Gada was unavailable for comment.
