MUMBAI: Manish Malhotra on his recent visit to Paris for the Paris Fashion Week met up with a Lebanese woman who was a boutique owner. A huge fan of the designer’s works, the boutique owner revealed how Indian clothes are a rage in Paris as well as in Saudi Arabia. And that Kajol is a big sellout amongst the royal circles because of films such as Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Malhotra tells Businessofcinema.com, "Apparently the Princes of Jeddah is a huge fan of Kajol’s films. And she has made copies of all the clothes that Kajol has worn in her films. They are now eagerly awaiting the release of her latest film, My Name is Khan."
To the credit of Malhotra, who has designed all the costumes that Kajol has worn in her films. For her next film with Dharma Productions, inspired by the Hollywood film, Stepmom, Malhotra will be flying to New York to get clothes for Kajol.
Malhotra elaborates that designing for Kajol is very tough as she is very particular about her looks in the film. He said, "When we style for an actor, we have to keep in mind the mood of the scenes. Sometimes a cheerful mood can suddenly dip into a somber scene and if the actor is wearing a loud and happy outfit, it would look weird when the mood shifts to the slightly low key affair. Likewise we also have to keep in mind the time of shooting. A day outfit of beige or cream may look dull if the scene continues into night."
