‘Language not a barrier to filmmaking’: Smith

MUMBAI: The director of ‘The Pool’, the opening film in the Film India World Wide (FIWW) Section at the IFFI-2007, Chris Smith emphasized that a different language did not pose any barrier to making of his film. ‘The Pool’ is an American film which has been shot in Hindi, a language the director does not know.

Smith highlighted that the film deals with human values which are universal in their appeal and making the film in Hindi did not pose much difficulty. He also revealed the plans to release the ‘The Pool’ in USA in March 2008 and expressed optimism about the likely response from the American viewers. Smith also hoped that the film would be released in India in the near future though detailed plans for the same are yet to be worked out.

The director is known for his searching, introspective documentaries and their natural setting and universality of theme – attributes that he brings with gentle understanding to his film, The Pool.
