MUMBAI: Mallika Sherawat has been cast opposite Avatar co-star Laz Alonso in the feature Love, Barack, a political romantic comedy set during the 2008 U.S. Presidential election.
The film will be directed by Doug McHenry and the script is by Los Angeles Times contributing writer Gary Goldstein. Francis Kenny is director of Photography.
Sherawat will play the female lead and central character Aretha Gupta, a local Obama volunteer coordinator.
Veteran actress Ruby Dee has also joined, rounding out the cast that includes comedy veteran Gerry Bednob and Loretta Devine.
Sherawat says, "Laz Alonso is a talented and exciting actor. I’m very lucky to be working with him."
