Manish Malhotra’s fashion for cricketers

MUMBAI: Fashion designer for actresses like Kareena Kapoor, Kajol and Urmila Matondkar, Manish Malhotra is now busy designing for cricketers. Malhotra is in Delhi today, all set to launch the latest uniform for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Shah Rukh Khan’s IPL franchisee, KKR was the most glamorous and flamboyant side in the first edition of the IPL. And a large onus of that goes to Malhotra. He designed the black and gold uniform, which is now going for a revamp in the second season. He said, “Every year fashion statements change, and so why should our cricketers not sport the current trends. Not that much can be experimented with track pants and tees, but we have made small changes in the design. One sleeve will have black and the other, gold. We have done away with the zipper this year, and added a gold coloured vee at the base of the neck. That gold is added to break the monotony of the black on the chest.”

Walking the ramp will be some of the big guns of the KKR team, and leading the way is the captain, Sourav Ganguly. Keeping him company under the archlights will be Akash Chopra and Murali Karthik. Ganguly, who has been thrust into the glamour world because of his association with KKR and Shah Rukh Khan said, “This is even more exhausting than playing cricket. When I was in the team, I only knew about the bat and ball. Thanks to KKR, I have been a judge on a reality show to choose our cheerleading squad, called Angels and now I will be walking the ramp. Wonder what is next in store for me. But the journey has been great and I am taking everything in my stride.”

The IPL is expected to start its 45 day schedule on 10 of April in Mumbai.
