MUMBAI: Singh Is Kinng is all set to release worldwide on 8 August, 2008 with approximately 1350 prints. In India, Singh Is Kinng will have the biggest ever release that any Bollywood film has seen till date. What’s more, this is also Akshay Kumar’s biggest release worldwide. It is distributed worldwide by Studio 18.
In India, the film is releasing with 1050 prints (including digital). The film will also see a simultaneous release in Pakistan on 8 August.
Last year’s biggest film, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Om Shanti Om was released with approximately 1275 prints worldwide. However, Singh is Kinng has now pipped OSO with its 1350 prints worldwide release.
However, what must be kept in mind is that Om Shanti Om released along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, whereas Singh Is Kinng is a standalone release and hence has a competitive advantage over OSO.
Over the last few days, Kumar has also been promoting Singh is Kinng heavily in the US across cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Los Angeles. To add to this, he also participated in The Unforgettable Tour with the Bachchans, which was held in Toronto a few days ago. Singh Is Kinng will open with around 110 prints in the US alone, 70 prints in the UK and approximately 33 prints in the UAE.
As far as the overseas market is concerned, prior to this, Studio 18 released Akshay Kumar starrer Welcome with close to 1100 prints (900 in India including digital and 200 in the overseas) in December 2007.
Singh is Kinng is being co-produced by Akshay Kumar’s newly floated production company Hari Om Entertainment along with Vipul Shah’s Blockbuster Movies Entertainers. The movie is directed by Anees Bazmi.
