MUMBAI: Mukta Arts Ltd has acquired the distribution rights of Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides (3D) from The Walt Disney Company (India) for territories of Mumbai (which includes the city of Mumbai, western Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and part Karnataka), Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab (which includes Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir).
The film is slated to release on 20 May in India simultaneously with its world release. Apart from Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides (3D), Mukta Arts will also release its own productions – Rituparna Ghosh’s Nouka Doobi (Bengali) and its Hindi version Kashmakash along with Love Express and Cycle Kick in May and June.
In the financial year 2010-11, the company distributed more than 50 films. Its exhibition business has also shown an upward trend in the last year.
Currently, Mukta Arts is managing programming for over 160 cinemas, or 425 screens for various multiplexes as well as single screens. Additionally, Mukta Arts is also gearing up to launch its own theatres shortly across four locations namely Baroda, Ahmedabad, Vishakhapatnam and Bhopal comprising a total of 17 screens.
