Multi star cast films are like Multiplexes and Multi cuisine restaurants: Suniel Shetty

Suniel Shetty often known as Anna will be celebrating his 45th birthday on 11 August 2006.

Suniel had started his career in Bollywood in 1992 and has completed more than 80 films in 14 years. Off late he has only been seen in multi star cast films, like the recent Phir Hera Pheri, Chup Chup Ke, Shaadi Se Pehle and Fightclub. Not to forget last years releases like Chocolate, Dus, Paheli were also in the same league. Defending himself on this front he wittily says, “These days single screens don’t run, multiplexes do, single cuisine restaurants don’t run, multi cuisine restaurants do, single shops don’t do much business, malls do. Similarly that is why single starrer movies don’t work these days, multi star cast movies work. In recent times, Krrish is the only film with single star cast that has worked.”

He further adds, “If a producer spends millions of rupees to make a film, he will obviously want his worth. No producer makes a film for passion; he makes a film to make money. A director may be passionate about his film, but not a producer. So if he wants to make money he will rope in multiple stars.”

Shetty also has a production company named Popcorn Entertaiment. The company has produced films such as Khel and Rakht which have had very little success at the box office. Now to make things better he is working with two successful directors- David Dhawan and Priyadarshan. “Popcorn is producing Bhagam Bhaag with Priyadarshan. It is a comedy thriller film and should hopefully release sometime next year. It stars Akshay Kumar, Lara Duttta, Govinda, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal and all other actors who are generally there in Priyans films except for me. Another one is with David Dhavan.” He modestly continues, “I have no idea about the star cast of that film.”

Shetty has many a time announced that he has quit Bollywood due to offers which he was not satisfied with. News was rife that he will concentrate more on Hollywood films now with Don’t Stop Dreaming being his first international project. To this he surprisingly says, “No. No. This is news to me. I am not Arnold Schwarzenegger or someone to get roles in Hollywood films. I am very much here. I am not going to leave Bollywood.”

Suniel Shetty’s will be seen in Aap Ki Khatir which is due for release on 25 August. The film also stars Akshaye Khanna, Dino Morea, Priyanka Chopra and Amisha Patel. This makes it yet another multi-starcast film in his kitty.
