MUMBAI: While Aamir Khan is hoping that his show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ can bring to light the social wrong-doings seeped into our culture and awaken the common man into pulling the weeds out, many segments of society are irked by the actor. While the fourth episode drew the wrath of doctors across the country, the fifth episode dealing with inter-caste marriages has scorned the Haryanvi Khap panchayats.
The leaders of the khap panchayats feel that Aamir portrayed them in poor light, and are demanding the show to be pulled off air. "We are trying to safeguard social customs and traditions which is the backbone of any society. This was done to fuel anti-khap sentiments," said President, Meham Chaubisi khap panchayat, Randhir Singh.
When Khan brought out that the diktats enforced by these Khaps was not in accordance with the law of the country, and led to triggering of honour killings, the Khap warned him against commenting on Hindu tradition. The khaps also urged people to stop watching ‘Satyamev Jayate’.
