Onir’s film I Am Afia completes first schedule shoot

MUMBAI: After directing My Brother Nikhil a movie that dealt with HIV AIDS and homosexuality, director Onir has just completed a film on social awareness. I Am is an initiative by Onir with a vision to use the medium of mainstream commercial film to spread social awareness.

I Am is a series of five short films to be directed by Onir namely; Abhimanyu, Omar, Afia, Rudra and Megha. The five short films have the common theme of fear and have characters moving in and out of one short into another thus linking them in terms of content and structure.

The first story I AM Abhimanyu has Sanjay Suri, Rahul Bose, Radhika Apte, Shenaz Patel and Anurag Kashyap. Abhimanyu is the story of a child abuse survivor inspired by the true story of Harish Iyer. Onir has completed shooting for this film in Bangalore.

Onir is currently in Delhi for his second short film I AM Afia. This story is inspired by the experience of Rima Kohli. Corruption in The NGO sector is widely prevalent and not too many people are aware of the extent of it. The style of the story is that of a thriller. Fast paced and gritty. All the five movies will be shot at five different locations i.e. Mumbai, Bangalore, Calcutta, Delhi and Kashmir.

The project is unique in itself as it has 400 co-owner from 25 cities over the globe and 45 volunteers as crew and actors.

The first film I Am Abhimanyu stars Sanjay Suri, Rahul Bose, Shernaz Patel, Radhika Apte and Anurag Kashyap. Music is by Rajiv Bhalla and Lyrics by Amitabh Varma. Screenplay  by Merle Kroeger and Onir.
