Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival to be held on 17 July

MUMBAI: The 11th edition of the Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival (OCFF) will be held from 17 – 27 July 2009 in New Delhi at the Siri Fort Complex.

Every year new elements have been introduced to enhance the overall festival experience. OCFF is one of the world’s leading festivals of Contemporary Indian, Asian and Arab Cinema, organized by Osian’s Connoisseurs of Art in association with the Government of the NCT of Delhi.

The Festival has appointed Indian filmmaker Mani Kaul as director general. OCFF joint directors Indu Shrikent and Latika Padgaonkar will work along with Kaul on the fest.

Kaul says, "Irrespective of its independent or mainstream origin we will strive for a dispassionate portrayal of new and bold cinema. Our programme will range from uncompromising experimentation in films, to an archival kind of cross reference between cinemas of the world, to an articulation of an emerging, thinking NewStream cinema in India."

There will be three sections: InCompetition Section, InDialogue Section and NewStream Cinema.

The InCompetition Section will have 15 masterpieces from the Indian, Asian and Arab world, selected in terms of their individual and unique vision, wherein the first, second or third eligible film of the filmmaker will compete.

The InDialogue Section will blur genres and cross boundaries as they establish a dialogue on cinematic resonances between films from Indian- Asian-Arab countries and the rest of the world.

On the other hand, the NewStream Cinema section will present a series of talks and Q&As on innovations and expanding boundaries visible in Indian films today. Directors, actors and technicians will engage with the audience and help them explore anew the world of cinema.
