Pix enters into output deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment

MUMBAI: Pix has entered into an output deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) that will allow it to premiere popular Hollywood movies.

Prior to this PIX did not have an exclusive deal with any of the major Hollywood studios, unlike HBO which has deals with Warner Brother Pictures, Paramount Pictures and Star Movies which has an exclusive deal with Fox Star and Walt Disney Studios.

The deal will be effective January, 2011, after HBO’s agreement with Sony Pictures comes to an end. Recent titles like Salt, The Karate Kid and Grown Ups will be premiered after that.

In 2009-10, PIX had a 30 per cent jump in advertisement revenues and they expect similar growth in advertisement sales, in the current year. They expect the ad revenues of the channel to grow at around 40 per cent.

The move gives official rights to PIX to exclusively telecast all the Hollywood box office titles of Sony pictures.

As part of the agreement, the deal will also grant PIX long term access to the extensive Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) library.
